How much?: We all have small amounts of Albumin in the urine. More than 150 mg/day is abnormal. The more protein/albumin in urine the worse it is. Depending on the cause of Albumin and the amount of albumin, it can be dangerous. See this for more info.

Proteinuria: With certain kidney pathology there can be heavy amounts of protein lost in the urine due to glomerular pathology but the rest of the kidney function can be good enough so that blood tests for kidney function are still normal. A nephrologist can better explain your status after evaluating you and all your pertinent test results.

Would see blood also: I would venture to say that if the impact was significant, you should have blood in the urine as well as protein.  Sole proteinuria is likely related to some other kidney issue and if persistent and of large amounts, needs further work up.

Albumin = good news: Good not to have Albumin or protein in urine. Elevated cholesterol levels havenothing to do with uti's. Utis almost invariable are caused by bacteria reaching the bladder, attaching themselves to bladder wall and multiplying. Levevated cholesterol is due in part to genetic factors & in part to diet. Advise a low cholesterol diet & your dr. Will prescribe statins if necessary. Good luck.

my husband is diabetic. he had a random urine after a fast so was dehydrated. the urine creatinine was 390, albumin 39 so the ratio was normal at 10. could being dehydrated have caused the high numbers? his plasma creatine and bun were normal?

Kidney related ?'s: A high creatinine in the urine while dehydrated is not unusual, but your husband as a diabetic should seen his nephrologist , as renal (kidney) decompensation is a serious problem requiring constant monitoring in diabetic patients especially.

: The information provided makes a liver condition to account for  tea colored urine very unlikely.  Hemolytic disease is more likely the cause.  Needs more information, e.g. fractionation of bilirubin, reticulocyte count, etc.
