Salicylate: It may, because it contains a locally acting anti-inflammatory related to aspirin: bismuth sub-salicylate.  You should be aware of the aspirin-like qualities and not use it as you would an antacid, because the salicylate can also cause ulcers and bleeding.  It is best used for diarrhea or gastroenteritis.

C Diff: To my knowledge there is no case report of C. Difficile causing acute appendicitis.  Taking Pepto-Bismol should not have any effect on testing on the status of Clostridium Difficile infection.

Options: There are many options to treat your nausea from gastritis.  Pepto is one option.  You should be on an H2 blocker or a proton pump inhibitor to heal the gastritis.  In addition you can try any OTC nausea med.  If you have a pcp you can ask for zofran (ondansetron) as needed.

Sleeping?: Sleeping while having diarrhea can be risky/ messy. The cause of the diarrhea is important to know. Diarrhea alone does not usually cause hot flashes. This may be an infectious diarrhea in which case you need antibiotics.

my daughter took 2 pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate) chewable tablets at about 1130pm thursday night. today her stools are black. could it still be caused by the medicine?

Yes: Pepto-Bismol is well known for causing black stools. This is of no concern. Her stool will return to normal within a day or two.
