AV septal defects: Endocardial cushion defects, more commonly known as atrioventricular (AV) canal or septal defects, include a range of defects characterized by involvement of the atrial septum, the ventricular septum, and one or both of the AV valves.   A complete AV septal defect indicates the presence of both atrial and ventricular septal defects with a common AV valve.

AV canal: Also known as an av canal, or atrio-ventricular septal defect, it is a type of congenital heart defect. There is a an ASD and vsd together creating a  defect in the center of the heart. There is also one common av valve , rather than 2 distinct valves (mitral and tricuspid valves). It is commonly but not necessarily associated with down syndrome. Surgical repair is required in infancy.

AV valve development: In normal development, the primitive atrioventricular (av) canal joins the atria to the ventricles. At four to five weeks of gestation, the superior and inferior endocardial cushions of the common av canal fuse and lead to the formation of the mitral and tricuspid valves and the av septum. Failure of these cushions to fuse properly results in a broad range of av septal defects and av valve defects.

Anywhere: Most pharmacies and mega-stores like walmart, etc have a foot section that sell toe cushions. Just be sure to avoid "medicated" pads, as these have salicylic acid which can cause painful skin burning. If cushions don't help, check your shoes for proper fit and see a podiatrist for other solutions.
