Sulfa + allergy: Celecoxib can cause two different types of allergies.  The 1st is allergy to the class of non steroidal anti-inflammatories, e.g. ibuprofen, etc.  This allergy is of the typical kind with rash, itching on the trunk, neck and extremities.  If untreated/severe, it can cause swelling of the throat and respiratory distress.  Also celecoxib has a sulfa component which can also yield sulfa drug allergy.

Celebrex: Celebrex is classified as an anti-inflammatory drug known as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug or NSAID.  It is more specific than other agents such as ibuprofen or naproxen.  Recent data shows that Celebrex is relatively safe compared to other NSAIDs.

should a patient with shellfish allergies take celebrex (celecoxib)?

No need to avoid: Allergic reactions to shellfish (shrimp, crab, lobster, oysters, etc) are due to ige allergic antibody to the meat/muscle protein called tropomyosin.  Adverse reactions to Celebrex (celecoxib) and other nsaids are unrelated to this and have a different mechanism of triggering allergic type reactions.  There should be no connection between the two.

my dad was recently in the icu w/ internal bleed due 2 celebrex (celecoxib) flaring up diverticulosis.  hejust had a bad fall and fractured his back.  can the hydrocodon he's on cause another bleed? if yes, alts?

Family practice : It would not cause increased bleeding. It could cause drowsiness which would increase risk for a fall.

used lodine or celebrex (celecoxib) on and off for 3 or 4 years. occasionally had some stomach burning. havent used in 3 months can it still cause an ulcer?

Maybe, but not DUE.: Even people who have never used those meds may get stomach ulcers, so your being off them for a few months doesn't eliminate the possibility.
