Very very unlikely: Fluorouracil is a type of chemotherapy, and it works by interfering with dna reproduction. So yes, there is a very tiny chance that it could cause a mutation that would lead to cancer. However, the cream is used on the skin, and very little should be absorbed. The chance that you would get a cancer from it is miniscule. We give the same drug intravenously and by mouth at much higher doses!

Fluorouracil Cream: Fluorouracil is a very powerful medication, even in the form of a cream.  It is to be used for a defined period of time.  If the physician who prescribed it for you did not tell you how long to use it. you absolutely need to contact the physician to find out how long you are to continue applying the cream.  Do not assume that fluorouracil is just a "as needed" type of cream.

Yes...: 5 FU is great for warts. I use it all the time. It sure better than burning them out. Have to be very persistent on putting it on.

Efudex (fluorouracil): Skin irritation, burning, redness, dryness, pain, swelling, tenderness, or changes in skin color may occur at the site of application. Eye irritation (e.g., stinging, watering), trouble sleeping, irritability, temporary hair loss, or abnormal taste in the mouth may also occur.
Consult your doctor with any of these side effects.

Not recommended: Fluorouracil cream is used to treat malignant and premalignant skin lesions. Fluorouracil cream can cause significant damage to the skin. If you have a mole that is concerning or you desire to have removed, please see your primary physician or surgeon. If a mole needs to be removed, then it needs to be tested to determine if it is a skin cancer.
