Yes: There are more and more cases of so called minimally invasive surgery or endovascular surgery done today.  It would depend on the condition of the patient and the type of disease being treated.

Two ways: In the past, this is done with open heart surgery and the old valve is cut out and a new one sewn in to replace it. A new technique for the aortic valve involves crushing the old valve by blowing up a balloon and then placing the new valve through an artery in the leg, just as is done with a coronary artery stent. The procedure has been used successfully in high risk patients for surgery.

NO: Mild to moderate alcohol use can increase "good" cholesterol , but doesn't affect calcium deposits on valve.  I suspect you are on a blood thinner for valve, which CAN be adversely affected by alcohol.

Aortic Valve: The most commonly replaced heart valve in the us is the aortic valve.  The process of valve disease, usually leading to the tightening of the valve (stenosis) is very similar to that of the development of CAD which is very common in the us.  In the developing countries, rheumatic fever in childhood can lead to both mitral and aortic valve disease in the adulthood, but this is not common in the us.

"d?" Dialysis?: Hypertensive renal failure would go along very well with being on 6 BP meds, in which case, dialysis would be recommended since the kidneys aren't functioning. He needs his cardiologist and nephrologist to work closely together as they start, since dialysis can change medication concentrations, so doses will likely need adjusted.

Yes: It is absolutely essential to start cardiac rehabilitation post-operatively for any cardiac surgery, and valve replacement is not an exception.
