hey. i've got pcos and i dont have periods. i was just wondering, can you take clomid (clomiphene) without having a period? or do i need a period to take clomid (clomiphene)?

Yes: you can take it without periods. That's one of the reasons it's prescribed. Metformin is also often helpful to reduce the basic metabolic problem of insulin resistance.

Depends: Clomid (clomiphene) is usually taken days 3-7 or 5-9 of your cycle. That is counting from the 1st day of bleeding, whether or not you are bleeding at the time you are supposed to take the clomid (clomiphene).

No: Do not take any medication to delay menses when taking clomid. This will throw the cycle of clomid off and decrease chances of it working. A person can only take clomid for 3-6 cycles before it stops being effective so it is not worth it to mess around with cycles and waste a cycle

Talking Clomid (clomiphene): The purpose in waiting for your period before taking Clomid (clomiphene) is two fold 1. Your probably not pregnant 2. Sets they timing for ovulation and expected menses. You can still take the drug if you don't have your period, but you first have to be certain that you're not pregnant. Best check with your gynecologist.

If you ovulated: with the clomid, and did not conceive, the period should start around day 28 of the cycle. Cutting back on simple carbohydrates, such as bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and sugar, may help as well.

No: Your physician will induce a period before starting clomid (clomiphene).  You also need to know if your uterine lining is thick or thin from not ovulating. As directed: Please take your clomid (clomiphene) as directed.  You start it on a certain day of your cycle, not on a certain day of "heavy" bleeding.  If taken too early, it will not be effective.

Clomid, ovulation: Taking clomid as described should give an ovulation around day 14 of cycle.  Intercourse is ok anytime, but conception is best with intercourse on day 10, 12 and 14 of your cycle

As usual: Clomid (clomiphene) should be taken on the 3rd day of your period then ideally monitored with ultrasounds to see how you respond.  Good luck!
