Possible conflict: Aricept (donepezil) and phosphatidylserine are different, but work in the same direction.  Aricept (donepezil) slows metabolism of acetylcholine, and phosphatidylserine may increase acetylcholine & others.  Net result could be more acetylcholine which helps brain neurotransmission, but combining both could expose you to cholinergic side effects: vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, irreg heartbeat, wheezing, etc.

Drug interactions: Melatonin is used to advance sleep onset, and phosphatidylserine is usually used or promoted for brain function.  Taking them together should not be an issue but there are websites that can do drug interaction analysis.  Also are you taking any other medications as these can play a role together.  What doses are you taking as this too can play a role. Taking these then you need to see md for help.

Ask your doctor: In the review I've done looking at the interactions of these 2 entities I've not found any significant interactions.  However, the BEST people to ask would be either the physician would prescribed the estrogen or the pharmacist who dispensed it.

Aricept (donepezil): Ones with hypersensitivity to Aricept, (donepezil) Heart disease, COPD, Asthma, Arrhythmias. Caution if seizures.

Depends: Phosphatidyl serine (ps) can lower cortisol levels, so best to take it at night. Hypothyroidism often coexists with adrenal fatigue, and many people can have too low cortisol in the am and too high at night, making them tired in the am and awake at night. Ps can help this.

Either: Aricept(donepizil) used for dementia may cause nausea in some people. Taking it with food may help that side effect. However, the absorption is not affected by food- so whatever suits the person is fine.

Accepted Answer

Potential issues: There is a potential drug interaction due to metabolic pathways through the liver,  but a far bigger issue is risk of Risperdal in elderly pts with cognitive issues, and this includes transient ischemic attacks, strokes, heart issues, and increased risk of death.  Perhaps a different drug should be selected in a different category.  You need to have a conference with doc, and decide med.

NO!: Aricept (donepezil) is a class C drug, meaning it has not been studied in human pregnant women because of the danger, but in animal studies it has demonstrated damage to the fetus, birth defects, and problematic issues.  I would definitely discuss this with the doctor who prescribed it and look at risks/benefits.

my husband has vascular dementia. would he benefit from taking aricept or should he take amolodopine?

Accepted Answer

: Amlodipine is for high blood pressure which is the underlying problem of vascular dementia so he has to continue with that for BP control. Aricept is less likely effective but sometimes we give it a trial. Good luck.

what could happen if i take my dad (89 yrs old) off aricept (donepezil) after being on it for 6 yrs., if he really does have dementia?

Accepted Answer

Aricept (donepezil): Helps reduce the symptoms of dementia. Stopping it may increase those symptoms. Discuss with his neurologist before making any changes.
