Yes: An abn pap can mean many things.  With testing, your dr should be able to quickly tell you whether anything further needs to be done, such as a biopsy or colposcopy (looking at the cervix using a magnifying scope).  You won't give your partner cancer.  However, keep in mind that cervical cancer (one reason for an abn pap) is caused by the hpv virus, which is contagious and can also cause warts.

Maybe: Dysplasia (precancerous changes in the cervix) is most often caused by hpv virus infection.  Having sex with a man who carries hpv can cause this.  Most women have been exposed to some type of hpv virus if they have ever been sexually active.  In young women with mild dysplasia, their immune system usually fights off the hpv infection and their pap smear becomes normal within 2 years.

Cervical : Cervical cancer is almost non-existant in celibate catholic nuns who have never had sex.
While the pap test or smear is used for detection of abnormal cells in the cervix, occasionally an endometrial cancer will be detected.Also, during the exam, the uterus and ovaries are also checked. Nuns have higher rates of ovarian cancer than childbearing women so they may not need paps but may benefit from gynecologic examinations.
