H1N1 influenza: The flu or 'influenza' is very dangerous. This is particularly true since it can change from year to year- that's why docs recommend getting a yearly flu shot. There are a number of factors involved in 'whether' you could get this again or not. Part of it has to do with the virus itself (new strain, or slightly altered strain). Then, it has to do with your immunity or lack of it. See ID doc for Qs

Many types of flu: The flu vaccine contains (3 or) 4 different types of flu virus. One is h1n1, but even that could be different from the flu virus you had. You should still get protection from the types of flu you haven't had.

Yes: The standard flu vaccine contains H1N1 in it and everyone over the age of 6 months should  receive one according to the CDC guidelines. It may not be 100% effective at preventing flu but it does a very good job of preventing severe flu--if you get it, you will usually not be as sick.

Yes: The earlier baby shots from 50 years ago were rather harsh and frequently produced high fevers and other reactions. They have nothing to do with the highly refined and produced flu vaccines now available.

Don't know: I wish i knew why people won't get the vaccine. Myths about vaccines causing problems, needle phobia, beliefs that this illness won't happen to me - who knows. Vaccines keep people alive. Millions dies in 1919 from influenza -we now have a vaccine, yet everyone does not avail themselves. As a pediatrician, i see kids get influenza and get very sick when their parents bring the germs home - how sad.

Usually none: Other than temporary soreness at the injection site there usually are no symptoms. You should pay attention to the questionaire that is meant to screen for potential adverse effects of vaaccination, such as allergey to eggs, or having fever at the time of vaccination etc. Take the usual flu vaccine, there is no need for the hini vaccine at this time.
