Give blood withCA Hx: Not actually a straight forward answer on this one...Needs to be at least a year since youve been treated, no recurrence, no diagnosis of blood cancers like leukemia or lymphoma...Unless you had these as a kid and its been 10 years. Check out the american red cross list of conditions that affect donation...It will be the most helpful.  Than get out there and donate!

Depends: Depending on the type of cancer you have, how long you've had it or if you're actively being treated for it, you may not be allowed to donate.  If you had cancer years ago and are otherwise well, you may be able to.  Please check with your local blood center to see what their specific requirements are for donors.

Bacteremia risk: There is a transient introduction of bacteria into the blood stream when you brush/floss--a dental procedure exacerbates this. While it might not be enough to overwhelm your defenses and cause illness, .

Up to a point: Blood donations are acceptable as long as your blood pressure is below 180 systolic (first number) and below 100 diastolic (second number) at the time of donation. Medications for high blood pressure do not disqualify you from donating. You might want to run it by your doctor to be sure you won't suffer anyconsequences, but it should be fine. You're a generous person - thanks!

No: Most blood centers say no, mostly because the risk for you donating (venipuncture) is not trivial and impossible for the blood center to assess at the time of donation. You could always donate your time as a volunteer at a blood drive, however!

Yes you can: I would be careful about donating blood if i was taking medicines that might not be right for the person receiving your blood, but it you are taking supplements then the person receiving your blood may get the added benefits of what you are taking, a nice bonus!

Accepted Answer

Maybe: If you otherwise meet the criteria to donate blood, then Alpha thalassemia trait will not prevent you from donating.  The hemoglobin must be 12 g/dl to donate at our hospital's blood bank. Males with Alpha thalassemia frequently meet the hemoglobin requirements, females less frequently meet the requirement.
