Dysregulation: Mental stress can temporarily alter the functioning of your hypothalamus -- the part of your brain that, amongst many other things, controls the hormones that regulate your menstrual cycle.  Excessive exercise and low body weight (as in anorexia nervosa) can cause this also.

Irregular bleeding: At 37, it is common to have bleeding from sustained production of estrogen, without ovulation. When estrogen levels vary from day to day, withdrawal bleeding may occur from the thickened lining (endometrium).  Regular cycles will generally resume when ovulation is again possible.  If pregnancy is possible, obtain a serum HCG test to make certain about possible pregnancy.

Your OB : Can suggest med to stop it based on your history. Have a frank talk with your doc. Make sure you are not anemic now.

Brain suppression: The hypothalamus is suppressed by the use of the oral contraceptive pill to prevent ovulation. Stress can further suppress  the hypothalamus as well. The most likely cause of the absent period is minimal endometrial tissue which is common on the pill and therefore doesn't shed at the time of the due period.

: Stress can have an effect on the hypothalamus in the brain which regulates your period. If there are other concerns about normality please have your GYN MD evaluate this situation.
