Standard therapy.: I have nothing against naturopathic medicine, but not for graves' dz. It should be evaluated by an endocrinologist, and then there are several standard, proven treatment methods that should be tried. Untreated graves' dz is bad for you, your heart and your bones especially, and it can make you feel tired and anxious.

Never: Grave's disease is an autoimmune condition which cannot be cured. However the thyroid function can usually be regulated.

Graves eye disease: Most patients with graves have no or only minimal eye disease.  Graves eye disease runs a different course from the hyperthyroidism.  It can appear years after the thyroid has been fixed.  Graves eye disease has a wide range of severity, and can be difficult to treat in severe cases.  Steroids and/or surgery are used.

Somewhat : A total thyroidectomy would cute Graves' disease if combined with daily thyroid medicine. You need thyroid hormone to function so the taking out the thyroid would mean that you would've on thyroid medicine for the rest of your life- as scary as it sounds- it works well for many people! The only "natural": Thing to do is to visit your doctor or an endocrinologist and get evaluated and properly treated with radioiodine, antithyroid drugs or (unlikely) surgery. Don't ignore your disease, it's easy to treat properly.

6-12 months : Wait at least 6 months, preferably a year. You not only want the radiation gone, you want your thyroid hormone levels normal before you conceive.

Get treated: Hi. Graves' disease needs to be treated. 2 real options &amp; 1 third option. If you were my patient, I'd STRONGLY recommend treating you with radioactive iodine (131-I). Alternatively, you could use one of the two anti-thyroid medications - methimazole is preferred, but propylthiouracil (PTU) works well too. Graves' is only a surgical disease in very rare pregnancies. Good luck!

Various ways: In your age group, the most common recommendation would be to take antithyroid drugs (methimazole) to control the hyperthyroidism.  After 6 months, one could see if you have gone into remission so that you could discontinue the med.  If if hasn't gone away by up to 2 yrs of treatment, we would recommend radioiodine treatment or surgery to ablate the thyroid.
