doctor for the past few weeks my stool has been soft mushy darkish green and brownish and it floats and quite smelly. otherwise im pretty normal with good appetite. do i need to be concerned doctor? thank you

Probably fine: It can be disconcerting when stool appears different but it is often related to a change in diet or the addition of new medications or supplements. However, at the age of 50, a screening colonoscopy for more serious conditions is warranted anyway!

Maybe ok; inform Dr.: Babies older than a week have yellowish poops with the thickness of mustard or thick spaghetti sauce. Breastfed babies have looser poops. Formula-fed babies have firmer poops. Poop gets darker, with brown/green colors blended in, and also gets firmer, as a baby gets older. A healthy, happy baby who gets mucousy or sticky poop less than once a month is likely normal, but parents should tell the dr.

Any color: The color of your stool is not something you should be concerned with on a routine basis.

All brown colors: of stool are normal. Abnormally light stools ("clay-colored") may be due to reduced bile associated with liver disease. All dark brown stools are normal UNLESS they are BLACK which suggests upper GI bleeding. Sometimes more or less hydration in one part of the stool may affect its brown color. I wouldn't worry about this any further. Stay well:)

At least in America: As addressed on HealthTap before, normal stool pattern in America is actually a range. Most people will defecate from once every third to fourth day to three times a day. The timing of stooling depends on intake, transit, more.Changes in stool caliber &amp; texture, evidence of maldigestion/ malabsorption, blood, &amp; sometimes altered color all signal cause for concern that warrants medical evaluation.

Can happen: This can happen. Usually due to changes in diet.  If you are consistently taking a fiber supplement, then less likely.  You should consider regular fiber in the diet and more water intake.
It's best to discuss significant changes with your physician.  May want to consider colonoscopy if you are adult age.

i have passed a stool this morning and the end part was white in colour - 90% of it was it's normal brown colour and normal - should i be concerned?

Wait for the next...: White discoloration of the stool may be a sign of liver/biliary disorders. I would wait for the next bowel movement and see if stool is white again. If it is, check with your doctor for blood work.

Stool Color: Stool color not a problem unless persistent black or very light clay color.

: Assuming that follow up stools are not white likely related to something you ate.  Discuss with your Dr.
