See below: Birth control pills can aggravate acne initially, but over time, most will help improve your acne.     Levlen (ethinyl estradiol and levonorgestrel) is fine to continue with - your acne should improve.    In the mean time, use topical products with benzoyl peroxide  in them.

i hv been using "kanadex"  on my face for pimples n things for 3 yr. now if i dont use it i feel itch on my face and it turns red. is it treatable?

Usually: I never promise my pt's anything.  But I have put some of the girls on bcps for acne and it seems to help them quite a bit

Helpful: Most oral contraceptives will have a beneficial effect on acne, especially after the first couple of cycles.

It's possible: There is a medical phenomenon called tachyphyllaxis in which medicine becomes less effective over time.  This may be happening, or your hormonal balances could have changed also.

Usually: Most hormonal contraceptives will improve acne by reducing ovary and adrenal androgens.  Some pills are even medically indicated for acne, although most will have that effect.

It depends: Dermatologists can suggest a variety of medications that can be used after Accutane treatment, and oral contraceptives are sometimes recommended.  Topical medications can also be used. If acne is still severe, another round of Accutane is sometimes the best choice of treatment, but the dermatologist is the best person to ask about what is the best plan for each patient.
