No: This is coming from a neurosurgeon/painter: most indoor paint is acrylic water based.  Oil based paint is used less and less due to hassle with solvents and long drying time.   Lead paint is no longer used except in fine art work by artisis!  In the future open windows and create ventilation if you are in an environment like this one.

Breathe fresh air: If you're pretty sure that headache is due to exposure to fumes, then go outside &amp; breath some clean fresh air. However, if that isn't enough, then you should go see your Family Doc to look for coincidental causes of headache. And you shouldn't need any over-the-counter pain medications to treat headache, just clean fresh air.

However, this could indicate that there is a neurologic issue that needs to be evaluated. You would be best to start with your primary doctor and then consider seeing an ENT  and neurologist.

Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen: Reducing further exposure paint fumes will help to relieve the headache. Hopefully you are not a professional painter. Usual measures to relieve headache and exposure to fresh air will help to get a relief. The chemical particles binds to your receptors in the nose and triggers headache. It is not necessarily due to allergies; it could be a irritant reaction; the best way is to reduce exposure.

Open up house: I would get the kids out of house again if they are symptomatic and open up your windows and doors to allow as much aeration as possible. I'm sure in the long run you will be happy you had he work done, but right now it is difficult to see the forest through the trees. Take it day by day until the fumes resolve.
