Necon 1/50: "Emergency contraception" involves taking essentially a birth control pill  (or two, depending on the strength) after unprotected sex.  With Norcon 1/50, you would take only one for use as "emergency contraception" since it is a heavier dose than most commonly used pills these days. This kind of "morning after" contraception is not always successful, however.

It is so important to protect yourself fom unintended pregnancy and also exposure to possible infection with stds, emergency contraception is called Plan B because it should be a back up plan not the go to plan. Side effects from high doses of hormones ( headaches, heavy menses, fatigue) .Also remember to practice safe sex. Use condoms, as Plan B and other contraceptives do not protect against aids and other sexually transmitted diseases. Stay safe and take care.

Safe, effective for: Safe for OCCASIONAL use. EC pills are used after sex to lower the chance of pregnancy by about 70-80%. EC is a high dose of birth control. Abnormal bleeding or spotting is a common side effect. Nausea, abdominal pain or cramping, and fatigue may occur, but symptoms resolve in a day or two as the drug leaves the body soon. Women may also get breast tenderness, headache, dizziness, or vomiting.

Prescription: This must be prescribed by a doctor. Yes birth control pills can be used as emergency contraction. Usually 4 pills are given followed by another 4 pills 12 hours later. You need to see a doctor for this. If you are already taking birth control then there is no need to also take emergency contraception.  Alternatively you can pick up Plan B available over the counter at any pharmacy.
