i'm taking 100mgs of levothyroxine per day. my levels are normal now but i still can't lose weight. my doc won't give me t3 (liothyronine). can i take kelp also?

Yes, however...: "normal" levels often aren't optimal levels. Many people have trouble converting T4 to T3 (liothyronine) & thus need T3 (liothyronine) too. Please ask your doctor to check free T3 (liothyronine) (& ideally reverse t3). People may not feel good until T3 (liothyronine) is in the upper half of the normal range. If your dr. Dosing : Dosing for most herbals/ supplements is not well standardized, thus it may not be as safe as taking a medication as these are regulated by the fda and dosing is standardized.

Probably: The problem with generic thyroid hormone (levothyroxine) is that your thyroid level can vary depending upon which generic you receive.  People who have had their thyroid removed or have very low thyroid hormone production by their own thyroid should use a brand name product for consistency.  Hopefully this answers your question.

Yes and no: You can safely take brand name levothyroxine is your thyroid is deficient, but thinogenics will only thin your wallet. Why put chemicals in your body when you don't know what they are, what they can do, or what harm they can cause? Don't get your scientific information from friends, tv or the internet.

Strange question: Carbimazole is used to treat an overactive thyroid, levothyroxine is for an underactive thyroid.  They work in opposite ways, so one can not say one is better than the other, since they have different actions.

Accepted Answer

Yes: But do not take them at the same time.  Levothyroxine should be taken on an empty stomach and separate from any vitamins or supplements by at least an hour otherwise they could decrease the absorption of the levothyroxine.  Always check with your doctor for any contraindications before taking the estroven as well.

Yes, but....: I am not aware of a bad interaction.  However, why do you want to take garcinia?  These supplements are always promoted heavily without any medical/scientific justification.  A study by kim et al, nutritional journal, 2011, vol 10, page 94, pmcid  21936892, found no effect of garcinia on weight loss.  The advertisers won't tell you that, will they?
