Not necessarily: If you want assistance getting cleaned out the er could do it for you. However, i see no need to go for the extra glycerin suppository. It is irregularly absorbed and not toxic in general. The recommendations are an effort to discourage folks who might depend on suppositories to go.

Miralax (polyethylene glycol): Try taking one capful of MiraLAX in 8 ounces of fluid. It is a non absorbable polyethylene glycol that will draw water into your bowel and help you have a bowel movement. You need to have enough fluid in your system in order for it to work. You can take it 2-3 days in a row. Drink plenty of fluids, .

Not much treatment: A glycerin suppository is not much more than a bit of petroleum jelly  like material in a glob. It is not going to fix constipation but might allow a bulky stool to pass. Constipation results when the stool debris remains in the large bowel where water is removed. Your diet &amp;or lack of emptying allows this to happen. Effective control of constipation may take months, diet change &amp; Miralax.

Yes, qualified: The glycerin suppository will not significantly increase fluid losses but be sure to drink plenty of fluids with electrolytes like emergenc c, coconut water, nourishing broth soups, or pedialyte.  If you still have a  fever your need for fluids are greatly increased.

Let's define problem: Doctors define constipation as stools less frequently than once every 3-4 days. Patients feel they are "constipated" when passing hard or small volume stool, or they feel full &amp; bloated. Been x-rayed to check you're not blocked?  We don't know if your gut is sluggish or your rectum works correctly--these can be tested for (sitz marker study &amp; anal manometry, respectively).  See a GI specialist.

Yes.: Suppositories usually work pretty quickly. However sometimes they need to be repeated the following day. Before you use such measures you should definitely check with your doctor to make sure this is what you should be doing.

Probably not much...: We had a rash of patients who misread their instructions and swallowed them instead of using them as directed.  One complained of a stomach ache...the rest, nothing happened.  Including no results from the suppository.

Yes: The glycerin will not impede recovery from an acute attack, and will not precipitate an attack in someone with stable diverticulosis.

Unhealthy: A diet of only fruit and water is not likely to meet your nutritional needs and is protein deficient. Your infrequent stools are probably due to lack of bulk in your diet, since fruit and water only should have a natural stool softening effect.
