Yes and no: Triglycerides are the blood fats that are most influenced by fish oil. Your cholesterol/hdl ratio should be between 3 and 5. If that is what you find and the triglycerides are normal, then you are fine. If the triglycerides are elevated then stop sugar and take fish oil.

No: Krill oil and fish oil are the new snake oil, both are high in omega 3 fatty acids which are extremely fragile. Omega 3 fish oils reduce triglycerides by impairing the liver's ablility to make them. However the oxidative stress caused by fish oil actually raises LDL cholesterol. 
Some day we may use the phrase "this is just more fish /krill oil" or "here comes the fish/krill oil salesman".

FIshy Mystery Still: Still a mystery. We do know that that fish oil helps lower high triglycerides [a kind of fat], and may also reduce your risk of dying from a heart attack. But we don't know about colds. A recent study showed that if pregnant moms took fish oil, their babies had fewer colds and got better more quickly. Still don't know if fish oil will help everyone's cold though. Stay tuned. Hope you feel better.

Daily: Different formulations given different instructions. They should be taken daily for sure, but some formulations may say twice daily, whereas others may even suggest three times a day. Read the bottle.

Fish oil vs shellfis: Generally fish oil is produced from oily type fish ie bluefish or salmon so it should be safe to take for people with true shellfish allergies.  Krill because it is a type of shrimp - may be more of a challenge - if possible i would stick to fish oil.
