Theoretically: Never, but it has been known to happen once in a very rare blue moon usually a longer time ago when tubes really were tied. Now a portion is taken out and the ends totally sealed so they can not find their way back to each other not like the older surgical method of just snipping where the ends sometimes remet . Now only if the doc made a huge mistake could you get pregnant.

Hello. : Hello. Failure rates for tubal ligations can vary a little bit by procedure. It can be 0.2 to 0.4% around year one and 1.8 per 100 procedures at the 10 year mark.  So, your friends are correct.

Extremely rare: The tubes are usually cut and then cauterized to prevent you getting pregnant as well as leaving the possibility of ever re-attaching.  The chances of both sides of the tube  re-opening, then finding each other to fuse together and become patent would be EXTREMELY rare.

Unlikely: It is unlikely that you are pregnant but a pregnancy test should rule it out.
You may have failed to ovulate which might prolong your period since no Progesterone would be produced to mature your uterine lining so that it would shed. If this is indeed so your late period could be scant but somewhat prolonged.

Probably not: The requirement for the dye test has faded because the essure has been shown to be quite successful if done by  a doctor that knows how to do it.

Informed Consent: No. Your tubes were not just clamped. They were cut, burned, scarred and made impossible to have any sperm or egg contact.  This was very well explained to you when you chose to have your tubal ligation.  There is little chance that surgery can repair this. Please discuss with your ob.

An infertility specialist can do the proper bloodwork and counselling to see if you are better off with surgical reversal of the tubal ligation versus in vitro fertilization witheither your own or a donor's eggs.

Tubal ligation: Tubal ligation is one of the most effective methods of birth control. In general, about 95 out of every 100 women who get their tubes tied will never become pregnant.
But in some cases the tube(s) may grow back together, making pregnancy possible. The risk of pregnancy is higher in women who have a tubal ligation at a young age.
There are imaging techniques to assess the fallopian tubes.
