Hpv: Not illegal-but you should warn him. You can transmit the virus (hpv). This can put him at risk and potentially any of his future partners. Best to use condoms.

He needs exam by MD: Your boyfriend needs to be examined by a FP or Urology MD to be tested for the HPV wart virus. It is transmissible to him from you and if he is not examined and you are treated once sexual re-engagement occurs you will get HPV back again.

i have had hpv for 6 years. i know what to look for and know liquid nitrogen is best for me. lesions are small and rarely arise (1-2 times a year). why shouldn't i purchase my own cryogun and do treatment myself? it will save thousands of $$$ for me?

: First make sure you really have persistent or recurrent genital warts. It is rare for them to continue for 6 years is rare, and there are other causes of superficial genital bumps. However, if confirmed and with a dermatologist's professional advice, maybe this would be OK. But it's not just cryogen cost:  you would also need a supply of liquid nitrogen, which itself would be very expensive.

Probably not: Hpv is a virus which infects cells; its dna incorporates among the molecules of cellular dna.  Surgery can remove tumors which result from this, such as ordinary warts, or cancers such as those of the uterine cervix or penis, but if there are still infected cells left the viral dna is still around.  A vaccine may prevent infection and might help clear virus but has not been shown to cure it.

Wouldn't bother: Ingested propolis or other similar "natural" product have a cult following for some conditions but the product has no firm scientific or clinical basis for treatment. Those with genital HPV warts can have them removed by freezing/chemical application or laser destruction. The healthy immune system will eventually clear them in 2 yrs or so.

Long term issue: Hpv is a member of a class of dna viruses that tends to stay in your system long term. Like a cold sore it can surface & disappear many tomes. The warts that some strains cause can clear spontaneously over a few years, be lasered off or distroyed by topical meds but they can return years later.

HPV: I know of no physician, especially those serving women, who would ever wait till 30 to do a pap smear.  The pap smear is the basic test for hpv related cervical changes.  The only reliable test for hpv in a pap smear is fairly new called the hybrid hpv dna test and is offered at each pap smear.  American medicine has no standard of care that would postpone this important test until thirty.

LEEP?: "Lietz"? Or LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure)? I'm not sure it's necessary -- pap smears aren't even recommended at your age. Below 25-30, almost all cervical HPV infections clear on their own, even if dysplasia is present. Discuss w/ doc or get 2nd opinion at one of Australia's excellent government funded sexual health centres. Nabothian cysts are normal at age 19, not caused by HPV.

Urologist: Most males with condyloma on the genitals are treated by urologists.  Some family physicians also treat this. The surgical options are best handled by a urologist (eg laser treatment).

Be patient.: There is no "cure" that we know of, other than time and mother nature. Keeping your immune system in shape (good nutrition, avoiding hormonal contraceptives, avoiding tobacco) may shorten the duration of the infection, which can last for many years, even decades.
