Irregular periods: Assuming you aren't pregnant (have you taken a test?), the most likely explanation for irregular or absent periods is that you aren't ovulating regularly.  There can be a number of reasons for this and i would recommend you see your ob/gyn for an ultrasound and blood work.

Call the office...: It depends on why you are going.  A lot can be accomplished without an exam.  In serious situations, it is sometimes necessary to do an exam in spite of an ongoing period.  If the purpose of the visit is an exam and you are bleeding more than just some spotting, you might consider rescheduling.    Call the office for guidance in your situation.  Best wishes!

Yes: Your weight loss could be abnormal, and it might be a result of systemic disease.  Severe illnesses can cause amenorrhea.  Time to see the doctor.

Of course: As a general rule, there is no time of day, time of month, nor time of year when a doctor cannot examine a patient. Depending on what the patient's symptoms are, what her underlying medical issues are, and what the doctor is trying to assess, there will be optimal times and less desirable times to examine a person. Note that a gynecologist can examine any and all parts of the body. Details matter.

Birth control : Birth control pills are very effective at regulating the menstrual cycle. Nuvaring and the patch would also provide cycle regulation. Schedule a follow up visit to discuss which would be best of you.

i left the pill in may. after leaving the pill my period started again in july. since july my period has not stopped.
i have been to my gynecologist who has not picked up anything with an internal scan.

Steady bleeding ?'s: After the period in July, if the bleeding has not stopped, ask your gyn to do a serum HCG test to make certain about possible pregnancy outside the uterus.  If the test is positive, see your physician right away.  If negative, further testing is indicated.

i today went to see a gynecologist and i was told that i am 8 weeks and 4 days pregnant but my last period was 13 december... is it possible that i might have had my period while i was pregnant?. i havent had my period since then.

Fetal dates ?'s: If your last bleeding episode was "13 December", it may not have been a menstrual period.  There are occasions where a second twin may miscarry, with some bleeding. At this point, it is impossible to tell, but if your ultrasound shows a viable "8w 4d " pregnancy, your last "true" menstrual period would have been in November.  Your OB physician may have other information, so check with him/her.

Possibly: It would be best if you weren't on your period, but if it is on the light side, shouldn't be a problem.  Heavy bleeding could be a problem, but if you're bleeding non stop no a whole lot you can do.  You need to see the doctor

Should ask: You should consider scheduling a follow up visit and ask that an evaluation be done. There are several potential causes of a lack of menstrual cycles. Certain blood tests may be useful.
