i been on birth control (iuds) mirena (levonorgestrel) for 10 yrs i been trying to get pregnant for over a year why hasn't it happened? could the iud be the reason

Long changes: With 10 years of near constant progesterone presence in your uterus with the Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD in place, I have to think that it's going to take your body awhile to readjust to get back to "normal" levels of it's own hormones and cycles. Patience is difficult to have when you're trying to conceive but give your body some more time and keep trying.Consider using ovulation kits to know exactly when to try.

Yes: If you are using mirena, (levonorgestrel) it is out of the hormone that would help prevent pregnancies. You could also get pregnant with an expired paragard.

Supposed to come out: At 5 yr mark yes you could get pregnant please see you gyn and have it removed asap and either get another one put in or use something else  and if u want no more kids you can get an essure tubal takes 5 minutes, no cutting, I do them in office , no cutting , can work in the am, do it in the pm, go back to work next am.

: The IUD will not interfere with you getting pregnant once it is out.  You might be pregnant now, It will depend on your next time of ovulation. Do a temp chart and see.

a friend of mine claims paragard iuds can cause positive pregnancy tests, by producing the hcg hormone. this is completely false, right?

Wrong: Paragard IUDs do not cause + pregnancy tests, so if somebody does have a positive pregnancy test with a Paragard IUD in place, this should be evaluated further to determine if the pregnancy is in the uterus or outside the uterus (ectopic pregnancy)

Need veal: Fertility should return rapidly after removal of your iud.  See your gyn for further evaluation-- there may be another issue.  Also, 45% of couples having difficulty getting pregnant have male fertility issues, so your partner may need evaluation too.

Usually doesn't: Your chances of getting pregnant return to normal very quickly after having an IUD removed no matter which IUD was used.  It can take up to a year to get pregnant regardless of whether you have used birth control or not.  However, most women get pregnant much sooner than that.  Hope that helps.

Unknown: Each women is different in their ability to regain normal ovulatory function after Depo-Provera and iud. Usually within 6mos  to a year.

Fertility: If your iud has been out for over one year and you have been trying to conceive for more than one year both you and your male partner need the full fertility testing process to determine why you have not been able to conceive.
