Until you: Can control and normalize your thyroid level with either radioiodine or antithyroid drugs, get  your doctor to prescribe a beta blocker like metoprolol. It don't treat your thyroid, but can block some or most of the effects of the excess thyroid hormone on your nervous system, making you life a lot more comfortable and safer as well.

Hyperthyroidism is: The reason why you are having trouble sleeping.  Graves disease is one of the most common causes for hyperthyroidism.  Once your thyroid levels are back to normal with treatment, your trouble sleeping should improve.  Beta blockers such as Propranolol can be helpful in blocking some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism while undergoing treatment.

Yes: Warm  up & sip on milk, (tryptophan) or sip on  chamomile tea.  Melatonin or vallerian root can both help.  Retire & rise same time each day. Keep bedroom dark & cool & use only for sex & sleep. Turn off tv. No naps. Exercise regularly but not in late evening. No caffeine for 6 hrs & no alcohol or tobacco w/i 2 hrs of sleep. Keep dinner moderate sized & finish at least 2 to 3 hrs before sleep. Can.
