Yes: I suppose long trips in a car due to the lack of ability to move about would make any spinal condition flare up.  However, with spinal stenosis, a slight flexion in the back (such as leaning forward on the steering wheel like leaning forward on a shopping cart usually gives the spinal canal a little more room and is much more comfortable than extending the spine or staning upright. Fall: This typically does not cause stenosis unless its a herniated disc that is causing the stenosis.

Accepted Answer

No and yes: Spinal stenosis does not occur after an accident unless it is the aquired type due to a disc herniation, spine fracture or traumatic spinal instability or bleeding associated with it.  Stenosis is developed due to degenerative changes and occasionally due to a small canal you were born  with.  Whiplash is a flexion/extension injury.  With a stenotic canal, this force could injure the cord.

Yes: Yes sitting long periods of time can inflame a lumbar region that as severe spinal stenosis.  The pain in your hip and groin can be from aggravated nerve roots.  You can try McKenzie Back exercises.  If it doesn't resolve, then seek medical evaluation.   Back pain that causes numbness around rectum, foot immobility or bladder incontinence needs immediate attention.

It may: Firm mattresses have traditionally been felt to be better for people for back problems, but there really is no data that definitively proves this to be true. Firmer mattresses may be helpful to some, but testing out a mattress first may be the best way to find out what is helpful to you.

got x ray results. basically discs are wearing down leading into spinal stenosis? not really sure whats going on. im young and fit, what could cause this?

: You don't mention what your symptoms are. I'm not sure that wearing down of intervertebral discs leads to spinal stenosis. The discs would have to herniate and press on the spinal cord to do that. I recommend consulting a neurosurgeon to assess your symptoms and your MRI findings.and advise you.

Yes: Spinal stenosis is a condition where arthritic changes in the spine cause narrowing of the spinal canal and outflow tracts of the spinal nerves. With time, continuing pressure on the nerves or spinal cord can cause pemanent damage. However, many cases of spinal stenosis can be successfully treated with medications, injections, or surgery.

Indirectly: Spinal stenosis can only directly injure the nerves running past the narrowed area in the spine. If the nerves are badly damaged enough! there can be problems in the parts of the body that they control.

Depends: It would depend on the degree of spinal stenosis and upon the type of work you do or plan to do.

Where?: Good studies show that  the safest and most cost effective even in the neck is with the lysis of adhesion technique
using contrast hyaluronidase , local and steroid followed bt Hypertonic Saline x3
in the lumbar area  caudal and transforaminal catheter placement at the most  effected area.  Doing the same
epidural steroids work for a couple of weeks the above lysis technique for much longer.
