No.: The birth control pill did not cause your ovarian cyst.  Simple ovarian cysts are quite common and normal, and oral contraceptives actually decrease the frequency of these cysts.  If they become large or rupture, they can be very painful.  Follow up with the doctor who made the diagnosis.  You will need a pelvic ultrasound to confirm the diagnosis.

Pill: Probably the pill. Ovarian cysts are better used to prevent a cyst as opposed to help resolve it, once formed. The pill may be associated with bleeding early on in its use - should improve soon. Good luck.

Usually resolve: It is normal for a small cyst to develop on the ovaries from time to time. Ovarian cysts are quite common in women during their reproductive years and may be a single cyst or many cysts. Most cysts are benign and only require monitoring.  Most are cysts which develops from tissue that changes in the normal process of ovulation. They usually disappear within 6-8 weeks.

Pill vs.Ovarian cyst: The oral contraceptive pill actually suppresses small ovarian cysts by hormonal regulation. If you were not taking the pill for a substantial amount of time, then they can re-form.

i was out on lolo birth control to prevent ovarian cysts but i still got one. my question is does that mean i still ovulated? how are cysts caused when a pills job is to stop ovulation? thx?

: The ovary has follicles which are, by itself a changing tissue that forms a cyst just before releasing an egg. These are often small &amp; regress. Many tiny follicles are present in the ovary in various states of formation to be the next up for egg release. The pill works by stopping the release phase, which will leave many that will not. Cysts can also come up that will have no egg to release

It depends: There are ovarian cysts that will go away over time, and others that are more serious and need surgery.  Birth control pills prevent many types of cysts, and thus can be helpful in preventing cysts.  They don't make cysts go away away faster, but they prevent some types of cysts. See your dr about what kind of cyst you have.

Yes: Ovarian cysts are generated by ovulation monthly, and wax/wane with your estrogen levels. Birth control pills, depending on composition, can stimulate ovarian cysts, and can make things worse. Best idea is to talk this over with your OB if your BCP's are making things worse, can change the type and possibly lessen any symptoms
