when laying on my stomach, i have a mild burning/pain in my ribs below my pectorals. it does not hurt when standing. possible muscle strain?

Likely: Either muscular in origin or possibly costochondritis ( inflammation where the rib attaches to the breast bone).  Do u sleep w/ur arms out to the side and hands over head?  If so, favor muscular.

Do you have varicose: Veins in the leg, if you do, this could be superficial phlebitis, if you do not it could muscular origin, both you could treat with Motrin and moist heat. If did not go away check with your doctor.

Have it looked at: While a pulled pectoral muscle may cause pain and abnormal sensation, it's important to have it looked at to make sure it's not from an underlying cardiac condition. One differentiating factor is the muscle pain is oftentimes reproducible - if you push on it, it will hurt more - whereas cardiac pain may not be. However, without knowing further details - it's importan to see your internist/fp soon.

there's a burning sensation under my skin in the upper back and shoulders. it get worse when i work as i sit on a chair with no back support. could it be inflammation in the muscles ?

Yes : While inflammation is the most likely culprit, poor posture could cause muscle,strain in this area.  You don’t mention how long the problem has been present, or what makes it better/worse. If you are otherwise healthy, without systemic disease, then try bringing your shoulder blades together, hold for 10 count, relax for 10,count, and repeat 10 times, several times daily. Topicals can help

Muscle or nerve: Muscle 'pulls' or strains can be irritated when you stretch or use the muscle.  Tight muscles can also pull on the local nerves causing burning with stretch.  Other times, nerve irritation can cause burning when the leg is pulled.  A physiatrist or doctor of physical medicine and rehabilitation can help determine the cause and recommend treatment.

Ben gay: You can try over the counter anti-inflammatory or ben-gay. You can also try ibuprofen. A heat compress helps some as well. See your physician if you have further problems.

Soreness: The timing is important. There is a myth that it is caused by lactic acid, but this is usually cleared within a few hours. If it is delayed onset, it may be from "over-repair" of damaged muscle fibers. If it is persistent it should be worked up.
