i had one more quick question. if bun 25, creatinine 1.5, bun/creat ratio 17, egfr 58...the egfr means im in stage 3 ckd right? 58% kidney function?

Stage 3 CKD: You are correct in that your estimated GFR of 58 ml/min puts you into stage 3 chronic kidney disease. Remember, your GFR is estimated. The actual result may be greater, or lower, than the egfr. To get your acutal gfr, have a 24 hour urine for creatinine clearance. Ask the physician who orders this test to have proteinuria (p) assess in that sample. If p is present, it may needed to be treated.

Creatinine: Normal creatinine ranges from 0.6 -1.3.
This can vary from lab to lab age and sex.  Dehydration, exercise for 2 days prior to testing and ingestion of &gt; 8oz of meat can erroneously elevate levels.

Depends: Normal serum creatinine ranges from 0.7- 1.5 mg /dl in many labs, however one should review the normal range in their lab report. BUN ranges from 6 to 20 mg/dl. High serum creatinine and BUN generally indicate kidney damage.Your labs are normal, however review the lab report with md.

They fluctuate: Especially if you put on a some muscle. When I was lifting weights every day, my creatinine ran 1.6-1.8.  BUN goes up if you eat a steak. Best wishes.

BUN/Cr: BUN or blood urea nitrogen is the measurement of this chemical in your blood stream.  It is a product of ammonia metabolism from your liver. Its serum level is determined by how much urea you make and how much you secrete from your kidney. Normal range for adults is 10-20 mg/dL. Creatinine is a product from your muscles and it is filtered through kidney too. Normal 0.6 to 1.2

Are you a big guy?: Creatinine increases with muscle mass; when I was lifting weights every day, mine ran 1.6-1.7. A few meds, notably cimetadine, raise the value. And you're getting a little bit older and kidneys may not be filtering quite so well. You'd do well to watch this over the coming years.

Monitor for now: Normal levels for females range from 0.5 - 1.1. However, as we get older, our kidney function does decline and creatinine levels increase. Dehydration and certain medications/procedures may also cause a bump in creatinine levels. I'd recommend a medication review and follow up labs in 1-3 months to monitor your creatinine levels, unless you notice changes in your urine in the interim.
