NO: Not an std.  We all have bumps on the back of our tongues called circumvallate papillae.  These help us to taste as well as secrete a type of saliva that helps to wash debris off of the papilla which helps them respond to taste stimulation quicker.

Tongue bumps: Most likely these "bumps" are circumvallate papillae which are normal. These are part of your taste buds. Saliva is released at the base of them.
Just to be sure have your dentist take a look.

Don't worry: If your tongue is not bothering you in any way then these bumps are most likely completely normal. I can't tell you the number of patients I have seen who come in having looked at their tongue and think that these bumps are abnormal. The tongue has lots of bumps and almost all cases when the tongue doesn't hurt or cause you pain they are normal.

STD's: STDsare diagnosed after doing lab tests.  Ask your Dentist to evaluate your tongue.  Ask your Physician to evaluate for STDs well before your next sexual encounter.

This : This sounds like a case of oral herpes. Hsv type 1 amd 2 can affect the lips, mouth, and tongue. This virus can be spread by oral, anal and vaginal sex. The only way to know for sure is to have your doctor test you for herpes virus type 1 and 2. If you contracted the virus then you can expect an outbreak, how often is unknown. There are treatments available for herpes outbreaks. Your doctor will be able to prescribe you treatment if in fact herpes is the cause of your oral lesions. You have to also consider apthous ulcers aka canker sores. You can wait for another lesion to appear before you see a doctor, or you can go in sooner for a blood test (no lesion has to be present).
Best of luck and remember to always protect yourself against std's with condoms and/or dental dam.

Difficult to answer: Based on your description.  The tongue naturally has "bumps" called papillae.  Papillae can get enlarged for a host of reasons.  Best to be seen by your dentist or physician.  Hope this helps.

Normal/not specific: There is a prominent line of bump like glands at the base of the tongue, you may have never noticed as most don't look for them. Tonsil enlargement is not specific to the cause of their enlargement. If you are concerned about a std you can have it tested.
