i have a small growth or bump on the outside corner of my eye - not next to my nose. my doctor suggested me seeing an eye doctor  but did not say what?

Is it on your eyelid: ?  It could be as simple as a hordeolum.  Did you try warm compresses? An eye doctor would certainly be able to diagnose a bump on the outside corner of your eyelid.  If it's a bump on your eyeball itself, you definitely need an ophthalmologist to examine you.

Stye: If this occurred rather suddenly, it probably is a stye, which is a blocked oil gland of the eyelid. It can become secondarily infected and can spread to adjacent tissues leading to cellulitis. Most of these styes respond to very warm compresses 3-4 times/day for 10' followed by gentle massage with a washcloth containing a small amount of baby shampoo.  After a week, the stye should nearly resolve

Not sure: Based on your description it is difficult to know for sure what you were talking about. It may be a benign  I finding or something that is more concerning. I'd recommend seeing an eye provider to look at it, especially if it is causing you any pain, change in vision or other symptoms.
