Coccygodynia: This condition can be very painful. It can also linger for a while. Generally a course of anti-inflammatories, relative rest and physical therapy can help improve the pain.

Be seen: If it is bad enough, I would not hesitate to be seen.  An exam and X-rays will usually reveal the source if your pain.

No answer, I Suggest: You see an Orthopod or a Spinal Surgeon, to be properly examined and investigated. Otherwise answering your question I rather difficult, without much of a history and an exam.

i bruised my tailbone years ago. i couldn't sit with out pain. last month or so i don't recall reinjuring my tail bone but when i lay down i feel my tail bone bulging out abit. only tender if i touch it. i looked there's a bruise. is this serious?

: it is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you. You may watch and wait. You may have inadvertently injured the area. If it is getting better,  give it time. If the symptoms persist or get worse  see a doctor.

Check it soon: When you have those and bruising from a fall you should be warred, it could fracture of the tail bone or some else

Pain and CAT Scan: Pain over the area which was before the injury, x-ray for the area, if that was not conclusive i recommend cat scan.

as a kid i injured my tailbone bad, i couldn't sit without pain for a year then it got better.since i have been working out i'm noticing my tail bone bruises easily or right now it just hurts when i sit occasionally. not tender to touch. serious?

: Likely sacral pain from the exercise.  I would try some extension exercises like spynx yoga position. Keep walking and exercising.

Exam needed: This could be a pilonidal cyst that is causing the pain.
The only way to confirm this is with an exam
Until you get the exam, try some warm moist packs to the area.

Coccydynia: Some folks just get this "coccydynia". Whether it "just happens" or is from "sitting improperly" (whatever that may be), you have a couple of options. Most famous is a cushion with a hole for you to put over your tailbone. A stool softener may help if bowel movements are especially painful. If you're not in pain all the time from it, just watch it; let your physician check on your next visit.
