Vaginal or urine: is it like a period? How many pads does it saturate? Is there any pain? Could it be urine. Were you traumatized do to the sex.? I would suggest wait onemore day and then if it persists contact your PCP.

Pregnancy?: This could be a sign of pregnancy - if for any reason this is possible, check a pregnancy test.  Otherwise, if this is in the setting of regular cycles, you could observe for now.  If it recurred, then get in to see an ob/gyn.

Perimenopause?: You are at an age where the change may be winding up. This can cause major changes in menstrual patterns. Usually it is all a normal. When bleeding gets heavy (using a pad or tampon every hour or less) it is time to get checked out by your Family Doc or GYN. First you need to know if you are anemic or low in iron from heavy bleeding. then your provider will determine if further tests are needed.

Up to 6 weeks: You will be bleeding for a while although it should be gradually decreasing.  If you try to do too much and get overtired in particular you may notice increased bleeding, in which case you simply need to get more rest.  If it still seems excessive to you then see your doctor.

Irregular period: Plan B effects you for a couple of days after and would have no effect at al on bleeding two months later. If you feel your bleeding is abnormal schedule a visit with an obgyn to discuss the many options available for cycle control

Many options: There are multiple options for heavy periods. Hormonal treatments such as birth control pills, Progesterone treatments and the Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud are effective reversible treatments that will help many people. There is also a drug called Lysteda that contains no hormones which will help others. If you are done having children discuss the option of an endometrial ablation.

: Plan B can have various effects on your next period - heavier or lighter, earlier or later. So  what you experienced is not unsual. Good news is that once you get your period after plan B, that confirms you are not pregnant.
