hello, is breathing fumes from drain cleaner dangerous for the health?

Accepted Answer

Not a good idea: These fumes can contain alkali which can cause erosions the tissue sof the mouth and lungs.  They are also irritating and may lead to sneezing and coughing.  Best to use these items as directed, try to get god ventilation and wear rubber gloves and eye protection.

Not likely: Keep the room well ventilated and you should be fine. On the other hand, if you do not want paint the room yourself, tell your husband that the doctor said you should not paint!

Varied: Certainly the noxious odor is the first; prolonged exposure can lead to a feeling of breathlessness, and even to passing out from it.  My advice would be to ensure adequate ventillation if you have to be around them; or simply be as far away from them as possible.

Yes, breathing: lye  without appropriate protection such as Respirator  mask may lead to lung injury  . It's called Chemical pneumonitis.  Please be careful  and use the chemical under OSHA  and professional supervision.

Try to avoid it: Paint fumes containing oils are worst than water soluble latex, but fumes can damage liver. If yiu are not the painter, the risk is limited. The painter who get exposed daily,monad then get spills on their skin absorb more of the toxins and develop problems later in life

Ignore it: The chances that baby had any significant exposure are next to zero. I wouldn't loose sleep over this issue. Just avoid drinking yourself.

Yes: This would be consistent with irritant effect from the fumes, particularly if bothersome during the exposure. Increase ventilation next time if possible and/or consider wearing protective equipment.  It may also be coincidence (if, for example, you've contracted a cold)

R U dizzy: Inhalation of hydrocarbons (sniffing gas fumes) would potentially cause harm only if you are feeling symptoms from it. If you are feeling light headed or dizzy form the fumes, then it may be affecting the oxygen amounts in your blood, which gets transmitted to the baby. Luckily, baby inside you lives in a low oxygen environment, so you would really need to harm yourself before it would affect baby.

Yes: Volatile fumes from gasoline, glue, paint, etc..., are bad because they diffuse throughout  the body after inhalation. The fumes one smells at a gas station are diluted by the air, so don't cause illness. If one purposely sniffs gasoline or glue, or accidentally gets too much fumes while painting inside a closet, he can get damage to the lungs, brain, etc..., especially with repeated exposures.
