which is better breast milk or formula when newborn isn't pooping?

Breast milk: First i would consult with your pediatrician immediately if your newborn has never stooled as this may involve more than diet.  Breast milk is digested more easily and breastfeeding babies tend to have looser stools.  However, if your newborn poops but you feel he/she is constipated, i usually reassure parents that all babies have different stooling patterns.

.see a doctor : You need to take your child to a doctor to check if his outlet is patent and also prescribe medicine to stop vomiting like Maxolon drops

Glycerine supp.: Go get some glycerine suppositories, cut it in half, insert into baby’s anus......should be helpful......if no bowel movement in 4 hours, plan for a doctor visit

Weaning 1 mo old bab: This is not normal.  It is far healthier for the baby to continue breast feeding for at least six months before trying to wean.

Could be: The poop (fecal matter) from breast milk (congratulations you are feeding correctly) is usually much looser at the beginning of  breast feeding you must remember whatever you eat comes through in the breast milk the stool will harden up eventually so go ahead and to continue the breast feeding and enjoy your baby.

Newborn BM: it is quite normal for a newborn or infant feeding with breast milk to have from one up to multiple BMs a day. So long as the stool looks normal, has no mucous, or blood tinged, not watery and the baby is gaining weight and looks healthy and vigorous then everything is OK

Poop: Your baby's stool may be green from the iron in formula. The stools may be runny for a few days as he makes the transition from breast milk to formula. If poop remains runny he may need a formula change.

White stool: If it continues past her illness or if accompanied by abdominal pain or jaundice then get her seen by her healthcare worker.  Otherwise, stool changes are common and usually mean nothing.

Breast &amp; pooping: Breast fed infants can go a little every feed or overflow a diaper once a week or longer. If it is soft when they go i don't worry about it. Formula fed babies usually have a more predictable pattern of daily stools. If stools are getting hard, I often use full strength prune juice, 1oz once  1-3X/d.Takes about 3d to get things moving.

dark green loose poop since 2 days for 2 month old baby. she is under nan 1 baby formula from birth since i have less breast milk. is it ok?

Accepted Answer

Yes: The color of the stool reflects how quickly it passes through her digestive tract. Loose is OK unless you are dealing with frequent diarrhea. White stool or blood in the stool are problems. Green and loose are OK.
