is it possible to have a bacterial infection (or spread of infection from skin to else where in body) without a high temperature? i have alternating chills and hot flashes but no temperature. i feel like i have a fever but thermometer reads normal.

Need a physician: While  this may just be an upper respiratory infection the possibility of strep throat certainly exists. You need to see a physician because strep throat can lead to many other things.  In the meantime take acetaminophen, or ibuprofen , Drink lots of liquids and stay comfortable.

Premenstrual: If these symptoms occur each and every month in conjunction with your periods, they may well be mediated by the hormonal changes in the menstrual cycle. Treatment would be symptomatic with bland,low fat, low salt diet, flat ginger ale to relieve nausea and Tylenol (acetaminophen). Discuss this with your gynecologist if you have further concerns.
