Time & technique: If you did the test correctly, you are not likely to be pregnant. Home tests, if used properly, a negative result at 4-5 days or more after a missed period generally rules out pregnancy.

Irregular cycles: Well if you are sexually active, I would check a pregnancy test as this could be pregnancy.  Otherwise it sounds like you might not have ovulated the last couple of cycles and you likely need to see a gyn to get an evaluation.  But again, check a pregnancy test first.

Possible side effects include a temporary pain at the injection site, infection, bleeding, loss of skin pigmentation, loss of fat and tendon rupture. Systemic side effects of a local injection of cortisone are rare and usually minor.

Gender would help: If you are female then, premenstrual symptoms or menstrual symptoms.  If you are male vague GI symptoms which could be anything from indigestion to diverticulitis to a bad cheeseburger.  No matter which gender, GI flu symptoms (i.E the 24 hr. Stomach bug)...Though truth be told i'm not sure thee is a virus that only attacks the GI system...So the symptoms could just be from a viral infection.

Symptoms: You could just have a viral flu or gastroenteritis.  However a small percentage of women always have a false negative urine pregnancy test, so it might be a good idea to ask your doctor to order a serum (blood) test.

Risks?: At your age, unless you have a heart condition, you should be at very low risk of cardiac arrest.  Some things that can increase your risk include nutritional imbalances from an eating disorder and being exposed to drugs that affect your heart, like cocaine. If you have some exposure to these or other unusual circumstances, then you should seek emergency care.
