Yes!: This could be a pinguecula, a small degeneration on the conjunctiva or some swelling in the conjunctiva.  Go to your eye md.

what is the cause of blisters on the waterline of the eye?

Sty: It's probably a sty, a moderately inflamed "sweat duct" in the eyelid. I  tell my patients to get a damp wash cloth and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds.   Test it on your wrist to make sure it's not too hot.   Place warm compress the closed eyelid for about5-10 minutes and re-heating as necessary.  If it does not get better in a week or gets worse go to your eye doctor.

How long...: Are we talking about? Are the blisters on one side or both? Upper and lower lid? Pain that accompanies the blisters? New skincare products? Sun exposure? Are they really blisters or solid bumps like skin tags? The most worrisome thing would be Shingles and you are the correct age for that. If these are new, on one side and accompanied and preceeded by tingling or burning pain see MD right away.

White blisters: Clear blisters on the whites of the eye may simply be cysts.  See an ophthalmologist to confirm.

Conjunctival cysts: Blisters on the whites of your eyes, in the absence of any redness or other symptoms, are called conjunctival cysts.  They typically occur spontaneously and often resolve on their own.  Sometimes if they do cause some eye irritation, then they can be treated by an ophthalmologist in his office.  If you have multiple cysts, then you should be evaluated.

Examination: Blisters are always somewhat worrisome and providing possibilities doesn't help you very much. I advise an examination by an ophthalmologist to correctly diagnose and treat. Concerns would be herpetic lesions, particularly if painful.

Multiple causes: Most common is eczema, an atopic skin condition.  Next is contact dermatitis or allergy to a medicine or something that has touched the eyelids.  People with severe acne sometimes get blisters on eyelids.  In babies and children primary herpes simplex is common cause.  Must see an ophthalmologist or a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and therapy. Treatment varies with cause.

Trauma: A bloodshot eye can occur from trauma or by chance. If the blister is blood-filled and/or next to the most red part of the eye, there was likely a microscopic blood vessel that was temporarily torn, either from rubbing or hitting the eye, or even a short period of elevated pressure in the blood vessel. If this was the case, it will heal over 1-2 weeks. An eye doctor can treat the blister if needed.
