Blister? / virus: Lip blister could be a burn, having bit your lip and have a salivary gland swollen or possibly some type of chemical burn causing a blister.  A cold sore is typically a herpetic virus which will feel feverish, painful and last 10 days to 2 weeks usually.

Natural Healing: The good news is that area has fantastic blood supply and so healing will occur rapidly. Inflammation (red, hot, tender swelling) is the body increasing the blood flow to the injury to bring healing factors to the area and also the veins expand to carry bad stuff away. Dressings and ointments are of no value there.  Avoid further trauma to the area and let nature take it's course.

Oral herpes: Oral herpes (cold sores) is often triggered by sunburn. If you have a past history of oral herpes and are pretty sure that's the problem, contact your doctor ASAP for a prescription of valacyclovir, which will speed healing. A single oral dose (2 grams) is all you need. Do it immediately:  waiting even a day or two markedly reduces effectiveness. Don't use any creams or ointments; none work well.

Probably not: But might be. Until you somehow stop biting and licking you will continue the problem. Try rubbing in vaseline [Aquaphor] 12 times a day.

Herpes simplex: Cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex virus. Most cold sores can result on their own but the symptoms can last up to a week and can cause significant discomfort. You can get some Zovirax ointment from the pharmacy or you can visit the doctor to get some antiviral tablets
