Very small: Many causes for bleeding during pregnancy, but all are abnormal, and require investigation.  One not too worrisome cause of light bleeding in early pregnancy is termed "implantation bleeding"--a small amount of bleeding that occurs when the embryo implants in the uterus that occurs around the time of an expected period.

Common: Bleeding in the first trimester is not "normal, " per say, but it is very common.  The typical figure quotes 50% miscarriage rate in women with early pregnancy bleeding.  But that is only a little above the baseline rate of 30-40%.

: Re do the pregnancy test in 4-5 days, unless you get a period by then. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.

Period Range: Normal periods can range anywhere between 21 to 35 days. It's not uncommon to have a period that comes a little bit late , the more important thing is to make sure that you have a cycle that comes monthly.

Depends on trimester: Early bleeding can be due to a threatened miscarriage, an infection and even just bleeding related to recent sex or vaginal exam.  The cervix doesn't like to be touched in pregnancy.  Later in pregnancy it can be due to things like a placenta previa, preterm labor, sex or recent exam and again infections.  Its best to call your OB provider even if after hours (most of us have an answering service)
