Unlikely: Colonic bleeding is often intermittent and unless associated with a mass is not likely to be picked up by virtual colonoscopy. A FIT is a better and cheaper alternative.

Colonoscopy: Will look for tumors or polyps in the colon. Most common cause of bleeding may be from hemorrhoids or anal fissure that may not be seen well on colonoscopy. Less common causes of colon bleeding could be vascular malformation or diverticulosis which can bleed intwrmittently &  would not be seen at colonoscooy unless there was active bleeding at the time of the procedure.

Needs to go back: Have his doc take another look at him. Try to avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, motrin, aleve, (naproxen) ibuprofen. Good luck.

Depends: At 86 routine colonoscopy may not be indicated  but  some one with Hb of 9  &amp; bleeding is not routine is clinical judgement issue.  Discuss with permission with her physician will explain to you including alternatives .  I am sure all less invasive tests are already done.

More info: Many things can cause anemia.  Losing blood or not producing blood.  The scopes ruled out obvious causes.   But the small intestine  is not seen with those scopes.  It is also possible that your bleeding is intermittent and was not active at the time of the scope.  There are additional tests such as bleeding scans, capsule endoscopy which may help.  If no GI source identified see hematologist

Yes, if you want to : Find out the origin of the bleeding.  Most common cause of rectal bleeding is hemorrhoids, but other causes are possible, such as cancer, ulcerative colitis, crohn's disease, diverticulosis, or angiodysplasia.

No,: not in general.  It may detect the cause of bleeding, for example a mass or signs of colitis, but blood in the colon will in most cases be either undetectable or look like generic fluid.
