Cheek biting: Remote if at all possible. Try to stop anyway. See your dentist for a routine soft tissues head and neck exam every six months.

No: This is not a known risk factor for oral cancer.

NO: Oral cancers are associated with smoking, heavy alcohol use and human papilloma virus infection (especially base of tongue and tonsils). Minor trauma such as bites are not associated with cancer. Poor fitting dentures may increase risk but more likely due to trapping substances like tobacco residue.

No: No worries. You may develop some scar tissue, but not cancer. Factors that can contribute to oral cancer include heavy alcohol use, tobacco in all forms including chewing tobacco, and HPV infection.

Possibly yes: If you continue to bite your lip you are not likely to get cancer but it could happen.  The repeated trauma can cause inflammation and proliferation of the tissues in the area.  Over time things can change and you can progress through some of the stages and eventually get cancer, but that takes a long time.  Have it checked regularly and stop biting it.

Check your mouth.: Mouth cancers can present as nonhealing ulcers that can be painful.  Orophayngeal cancers may present late with sore throat and earache.  Patients can have painless lymph node enlargement.  Staging depends on the size of tumor and lymph node involvement.
