Varies: Birthmark  is a term that applies to a broad group of different marks with different physical characteristics. Some are amenable to removal through laser treatments or surgery. Some would only leave a prominent scar if any attempt was made to remove it.Consultation with your pcp/a dermatologist or plastic surgeon could provide specific information on your situation.

Confusing question: Birthmark is a term applied to a variety of skin surface findings that are usually present at birth or within the first month or so. New patches/  growths/ spots that arise during puberty would not be considered birthmarks.

Tiny hemangiomas: I think you are probably asking about something that is often referred to as a hemangioma of infancy.  These are benign collections of blood vessels cells that usually disappear on their own.  They typically appear during the first weeks of life and resolve by age 10.

Some do some don't: There are a variety of red birthmarks that appear on babies. Their eventual status varies with type & location. The typical "storks bite" on the back of the neck persists through adulthood while "angel kisses" on the eye lids generally fade as the skin thickens. Strawberry marks increase in size & prominence for about a year before shrinking back & may fade considerably. Ask your dr for specifics.

Would Not Recommend: Bleaching birthmarks is a common practice, but often leads to potentially serious skin damage.  Birthmarks are due to special pigment cells in the deepest layer of our skin.  So bleaching or other topical agents--like lotions--generally do not work.  Please see a dermatologist for further information about birthmark removal.
