Pressing/touching: a breast lump will not fundamentally change what it is, but I suppose the more it is manipulated, the more potential that some tenderness might develop.  At this point, the size doesn't really matter.  Lumps caused by benign processes can be smaller or larger, lumps caused by cancers can be smaller or larger.  You need  to find out what is causing the lump...see your doc for evaluation and imaging

Most early cancers have no symptoms.

Self-examination: Tara-that is often a very difficult thing to determine for patient and doctor, since the breast by it's very nature is a very "lumpy-bumpy" organ.  If you perform self-examination, you will be more likely to identify any new lump, which should prompt a visit to your doctor.  If they share your concern, they will send you to a breast specialist and may order tests such as an ultrasound+/-mammogram.
