Take burn seriously.: You need to take this burn seriously.  Second degree burns can become quite painful and can become infected very easily.  OTC remedies will clearly not be enough to prevent this from worsening in the longer term.  You should be seeing a burn specialist and get the proper treatment for this.  Don't take this lightly!!

Heat initially: If this frostbite injury just happened, reheat the skin by immersing in warm water. If this happened more than a few hours ago, protect the skin from drying out by applying vaseline then a gauze dressing. Try to keep the blisters intact. If they pop, leave the blister tops in place, cover with vaseline and a gauze dressing.

Keep out of sun: A mild burn like this should heal without issues. However, you should keep the skin moisurized and protected from all sunlight for the next few weeks.  Sunlight on a healing wound can induce unwanted skin pigmentation that can be permanent or very challenging to get rid of.

Don't pop it.: Observe for increasing redness/tenderness.If gets worse,c ur PCP for evaluation and treatment.
Fire ant bites cause tender small pustules.

i burned my finger and have a dime-size blister. the skin was already damaged from a previous burn. i take humira, (adalimumab) &worry about infection. treatment?

Keep an eye on it: You will need to keep an eye on it . If the lesion spreads, fails to heal after 2 weeks, becomes tender and warmth, or exudes pus, call your doctor immediately. Otherwise just be sure to keep the area clean.

what is the best treatment for a burn on my hand? i burned my hand on an oven rack while taking a pie out the oven. it hasn't blistered yet, i'm not sure that it will either. what is the best treatment to help with the pain and avoid potential scarring?

There : There are three burn classifications which will help you know what to do.

1) first degree burn: usually just redness swelling and pain. Unless it involves large areas of the hands, face, groin, feet, buttocks, or major joint, you can treat the area as a minor burn. If the burn does involve the areas listed, you should call your doctor or go to the emergency room.  First degree burns may have discoloration of the skin for a few months, but do not usually lead to permanent scars.

2) second degree burn: pain, redness, swelling and blistering. As long as the burn is less than 3 inches wide and doesn't involve the body parts listed above, you can treat it as a minor burn. (it sounds as if your daughter has a small 2nd degree burn) you should call your doctor or go to the emergency room if the burn is larger than 3 inches or involves the body parts listed above.

3) third degree burn: is the most serious and the area may not hurt (from nerve damage) and can appear either black or white and dry. This needs emergent medical attention and you should call 911 or go to the emergency room.

Treatment of minor burns: 
1) cool the burn by running it under cold water for 10-15 minutes or applying cold compresses (do not use ice).

2) cover the burn loosely with a gauze

3) take an NSAID such as Ibuprofen for treatment of inflammation and pain relief.

4) do not apply butter or ointments. Do not pop any blisters.

5) keep area clean and dry. Watch for sign and symptoms of infection such as increased redness, swelling, drainage, pain or fever.

6) once the burn has healed completely, the best way to avoid scarring is to keep the area out of the sun for the next 6-12 months.  Sun avoidance is the single most effective way to avoid scarring.

Depends on many...: Factors: the size, location and depth of the burn, the age and health of the patient, the mechanism of burning, etc. For minor burns with blistering, i recommend unroofing the blisters, washing with soap and water, and then applying Bacitracin ointment and a dry dressing twice daily. If increasing pain, drainage, or redness, or if not healed in 10 days, see a doctor.

Second degree burns: Are defined by the presence of blisters, but can range from very shallow to very deep. In general, the best treatment (in my opinion) is to remove the blisters to prevent the possibility of a closed space infection. Wash with soap and water, pat dry and apply Bacitracin ointment and a dry dressing 2-3 times/day. If increasing pain, drainage or redness or if not healed in two weeks, see a doctor.

If you truly have...: A 3rd-degree, or full-thickness, burn, unless it is very small or narrow and can heal in from the sides, it will need to be skin grafted to fully heal it. Partial-thickness (i.e., 2nd-degree) burns will heal in 1 to 3 weeks. If your wound is not fully healed after 3 weeks, you should see a general, plastic, or burn surgeon.

1st degree is a sunburn;try aloe
2nd degree is a blister: leave it covered, don't break the blister, and some otc antibiotic cream/ointment is O.K.;rx silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) is better.
3rd degree is burned thru the skin and must be seen by a dr.Many ramifications.
