Only if it is itchy.: Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) can v redness, pain, itching ; swelling from burns. It has anesthetic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial ; antifungal qualities. It speeds burn healing by stimulating new skin growth. V pain by placing cool, moist compresses on skin. Nsaid's ; Acetaminophen can help. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can be used for itching. Hydrate well ; don't peel off deep layers. See dr for severe burns.

May help if itching.: Keep sunburn cool w moist cool/cold compresses.  Avoid alcohol containing products.  Break off pieces of aloe vera plant ; apply sap to skin.  Consider non-steroidal anti-inflammatory meds to reduce pain.  Don’t yank off peeling skin or burst blisters. Seek med care for severe pain, fever, lack of improvement of sxs w/i several days or if a large surface area is blistered. Drink h2o.

Sunburn/bites: He may require a short course of PO steroid treatment in addition to antihistamines. Keep the area clean and try cold packs and neosporin. All the best.

This : This should be evaluated, try your physicians office to see if they will take you in today as an emergency, if not try an urgent care facility and as a last resort see an emergency department.  You need to be evaluated since this is increasing in size and it may not be related to the sun.

Viral Illness: If your rash is red, raised, and itchy you could be suffering from acute hives (urticaria). Hives is a common manifestation during are shortly after a viral infection which it sounds like you are suffering from. Try treating with OTC nonsedating antihistamine like Zyrtec (cetirizine) 1-2 per day and symptomatic management (increased fluids, rest). If rash not responding see doctor to have evaluated.

Specific treatment: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is called an anti-histamine.  Histamine is a chemical in certain cells called mast cells and is released when there is an allergic reaction such as hay fever.  Histamine causes some inflammation which is why our noses get red, congested due to swelling of the mucus membranes.  If the swelling is due to something else like trauma, heart failure, vein disease, then it is of no benefit.

Depends: It depends on the cause for the swelling. For allergic ones, less than 36 hrs. For other conditions, may be days.

If due to allergy: yes, it would help, but if otherwise, like infection or trauma it won't, isolated lip swelling due to allergy only is kind of rare, please see your doctor if this is a recurring problem
