Sleepiness: If the infant took one dose, they may get very sleepy. Try to hydrate the baby if he/she is awake as much as you can and if you notice any trouble breathing take them to the er, but generally it should be ok and will resolve on its own.

No: No reason to do this.  Generally, babies cry because the teeth cutting through the gums cause a localized inflammation.  Getting a prescription for Peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate) oral rinse and applying this on a small cotton swab to the inflamed gum will decrease the inflammation  and therefore the pain and crying.

Other antihistamines: You may try an antihistamine eye drop or take any other kind of antihistamine.  They would not do harm to your babies (vs Benadryl (diphenhydramine) which may make you very drowsy and less able to take care of your kids).

Using medication to induce and maintain a baby''s sleep is the same as an adult relying on a sleeping pill to go to sleep. There are many, many natural ways to put a baby/child to sleep. Ask your pediatrician for a thorough discussion (not possible in this forum) or read ferber's book - solving your child's sleep problems.
