Prednisone/antiviral: Prednisone 60 to 80 mg/day for 1 week started within 3 days of onset. If severe, consider valacylovir 1000mg three times a day for 1 week.

Be patient: Bell's palsy will usually resolve on it's own. It can occasionally be caused by certain viral infections and it's always important to see your doctor to confirm that's what it is. Occasionally steroids and other medicines are given; if you're unable to close your eye completely this should be addressed to prevent corneal damage. So again, see your doctor.

Probably not measles: Bell Palsy may be caused by herpes, chicken pox virus, Lyme disease, syphilis, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, human immunodeficiency virus [HIV], common cold viruses, or mycoplasma.  It can also be caused by inflammation alone, or small blood vessel problems from diabetes or high blood pressure.

Lip: With such localized involvement, I'd consider this to be a superficial nerve irritability rather than a systemic neurological process like multiple sclerosis. It isn't consistent with Bells Palsy. My guess is that this irritability will subside. If it persists or if other anatomic regions become involved, consult a neurologist.

Dryness: The bells palsy makes it hard to blink, so eye gets dried out and blurred.

No: Even though some believe a viral infection plays a role in bell's palsy, the "disease" is not  contagious.

Accepted Answer

No: However Bell's can be a presenting manifestation of other conditions.  You need to consult the doc who prescribed the Prednisone.  Especially if you have any rash or other symptoms.

Facial paralysis: This is paralysis of one side of the face, usually of unknown or uncertain cause, although it can be a manifestation of  lyme disease, occasionally herpes simplex infection.

Accepted Answer

Yes: The facial nerve is severely damaged in bells palsy, but then has to recover and regrow.  As it regrows it will produce very strange sensations.  It may even regrow down wrong paths and cause strange outcomes (jaw - wink, etc).  This is normal course of recovery.

Eye, central nervous: It does need immediate attention it could be more than one thing. The first thing to consider is visual but also central nervous system. Your first that would be to see a neurologist.
