Skin Rash: Dry skin can make itching caused by a rash worse.

Avoid taking hot showers or baths.

Keep the water as cool as you can tolerate.

Try an oatmeal bath, such as Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal bath, to help relieve itching.

Itchy: Rather than suggest a lotion or cream, I would like to ask you how harsh your soap is. Insure that you wash with a gentle soap or cleanser. Some soaps also contain emollients.

The rash can break out within minutes of water exposure, and may last for up to two hours. It is common for the rash to be itchy, which can cause extreme discomfort for the patient. There is no cure for aquagenic urticaria, although sometimes medications help.

my 17month old child was exposed to lamp oil on his skin. he has broken out in a rash. i gave him a bath. what else should i do? what if he ate some?

Toxic substance: Scented and unscented lamp oil is kerosene without the bad smell. But contrary to popular belief, the additives (benzene, naphtha) that masks the smell makes  lamp oil potentially  dangerous, and if absorbed  by the skin and mucous membranes it could be harmful. my baby has a red raised rash and dry skin on his back but no where else. we haven't changed detergents or bath wash. what could it be?

What did he lay on ?: If this is localized to an area so well defined, you would want to look into what surfaces he laid  on within the preceding 12-18 hrs before the rash.A baby will sweat some & may dissolve fabric softener, cleaning products or other agents were left in any concentration on a surface.Some babies will react to a wool blanket that way, etc.I can think of no illness or food item that would produce this.

i have extremely itchy dry skin everywhere.im 20 weeks pregnant.i cant use any fragrance on my skin and bath with dermakelp. help little but not all the time. pls advise what i can do to get relief. i cant sleep or sit for long then i itch.no rash!

Pregnancy: can make you more sensitive to chemicals.  If gets worse with a rash, you should see your doctor to be sure. Using antihistamines, such as benadryl or zyrtec, may help.

3 yr old has itchy skin on torso at night. no rash. no scratching observed during day. scratches herself in sleep. not stressed, otherwise healthy, usually sleeps between 7:30-8:30am. baths twice a week. what can we do besides use vaseline cream?

Check bedding: Check bedding for insects, bed bugs e.g. Wash skin with a gentle antibacterial soap, moisturize with an eczema cream a few times per day. A Children's antihistamine may be used for itching and scratching. If the skin is itchy due to an allergic reaction e.g. dust, keep the room and bedding dust free, wash sheets in hot water and have allergy testing completed. Avoid harsh detergents, fragrance.

Consider testing for immune defects, which can be arranged by your PCP. The testing may include a CBC, differential, plts, total IgG, A, M, E and vaccine antibody specific responses.
