Endocarditis: The primary thing to look for with infectious endocarditis are positive blood cultures. Usually ALL the blood cultures are positive, and they 'turn' positive quite rapidly. If this diagnosis is under consideration, please make sure you get an Infectious Diseases specialist to assist in the diagnosis and management. There are other lab abnormalities too- like urinary findings, elevated sed rate etc

Not usually.: Except in the case of bacterial infection of the heart valves (endocarditis) or septic shock , this would be very unusual.

i'm having one especially since a bacterial infection from a dental abscess, can it travel to the heart? what should i do?

Accepted Answer

Rare but possible: Abscess from one of the lower teeth can cause swelling of the floor of the mouth (your tongue becomes elevated) and that could compromise breathing.  And if it travel along one of the fascial planes it could lead straight to the heart.  It is rare but it does happen.  You need to be placed on antibiotics and have the tooth evaluated for possible extraction or root canal. Don't wait.

They will: Probably do X-rays with bone windows of his toe to look for infection in the bone. If they really can't tell maybe a bone scan but that probably won't be needed .

Your : Your clinical presentation is consistent with septic shock secondary to bacterial endocarditis. If that is indeed the case, you should immediately go to the hospital for additional tests (blood cultures, echocardiography) and treatment (iv antibiotics).

: Very puzzling why you had orchiopexy. Diagnosis of bacterial infection in your testicle seems questionable. When you 'touch' you are not touching the testicle but the scrotal skin as the testicle is inside. Normal ultra sound implies that the testicle is not 'dead'. In my opinion you ought to have a thorough Urologic exam at an  Academic institution as  it might give you a second opinion. Good luc

Depends: Tick bites can carry diseases like rocky mountain spotted fever, lyme disease, & ehrlichiosis. Mosquito bites in many areas of the world can carry malaria, yellow fever, & a host of other diseases. Any insect bite can become secondarily infected with strep, staph, mrsa. If the bite area is swelling, getting redder, draining pus, hurting more, see a doc as soon as possible for evaluation & tx.
